How to Sell Printable Wall Art Over 20MB on Etsy
One artwork is never one file. Frames come in shapes that refuse to agree: 2:3 for 20×30 and 24×36, 3:4 for 18×24, 4:5 for 16×20, 11×14 in a ratio of its own, and the ISO A-series for every buyer outside the US. Each one is a different crop of the same painting, exported separately, at 300 DPI.
Ship each ratio as a JPG and a print-ready PDF and one artwork becomes ten files running a few hundred megabytes — and a single 24×36 in export can exceed 20 MB on its own. Etsy allows 5 files per Etsy listing, 20 MB each.

A 24×36 inch print at 300 DPI is 7200 × 10800 pixels — 78 million of them, 233 MB of raw RGB before compression. What survives the JPEG encoder depends entirely on the art. Flat minimalist line work squeezes down to a few megabytes; textured abstracts, oil-paint brushwork and film-grain photography sit at 20-60 MB, because the grain is the detail and compression is exactly what removes it.
Then the ratios multiply it. You cannot hand a buyer one file and tell them to trim, because every ratio is a different composition — 11×14 sits a hair off 4:5, close enough to look identical in a listing photo and different enough to crop the top off your artwork. Each ratio is its own export, the print-ready PDF of each is another file about the same size again, and zipping the set saves almost nothing since JPGs are already compressed.

The default deliverable. Buyers send it to a print lab, a copy shop, or their own printer, and 300 DPI is what keeps it sharp at poster size.
Print-ready PDF at exact size

ISO A-series export (A5 through A1)
Every buyer outside the US frames in A sizes. One ratio covers the whole series — but only if you export at A1, so it scales down instead of up.

Why Etsy's 20 MB × 5 cap bites here
Five ratios fill five slots. That is the entire allowance gone before the print-ready PDFs, before the print guide, before anything at A1 or 24×36. And five full slots is 100 MB total, which one large-format export can eat half of by itself.

The workarounds sellers use — and what they cost
Every printable wall art seller has tried at least one of these.
1. Compress the export until it fits
Pull the JPEG quality slider down until the 24×36 in file lands under 20 MB.
The problem: Artifacts scale with the print. Banding across a gradient sky is invisible in a phone preview and unmissable at poster size, and the buyer already paid a print shop before they found out.
2. Cap the sizes you offer
Stop at 16×20 and leave large format out of the listing.
The problem: Buyers wanting a statement piece go to a listing that includes 24×36. Some take your 16×20 file to a lab and print it at poster size anyway — then blame the artwork for the softness.
3. Ship JPGs only, drop the PDFs
Halve the file count by leaving out the print-ready PDF versions.
The problem: Copy shops and print labs routinely ask for a PDF at exact size. Without one, whoever opens the JPG picks the scaling, and 'my print came out with white borders' becomes your message to answer.
4. A link file pointing at Drive or Dropbox
Upload a one-page PDF to Etsy; the real ratios live in cloud storage.
The problem: Wall art gets reprinted when people move house or redecorate — often years later. That is exactly when the folder has moved, and the buyer still has the Etsy receipt.
