How to Sell Coloring Pages and Coloring Books Over 20MB on Etsy
A coloring book is one page, a hundred times. Each page exports at 300 DPI so the lines print solid black instead of soft gray, and each page lands somewhere between 300 KB and 1 MB. Bind 100 of them into a US Letter PDF and the file runs 40 to 90 MB. The artwork isn't heavy. The page count is.
Etsy's limit is 20 MB per file, 5 files per listing. Your listing title says β100 Pagesβ because that's the number buyers compare β and the page count is the exact thing Etsy won't let you upload.
The file-size math
| What you deliver | Realistic size |
|---|---|
| 100-page line-art book, 300 DPI (US Letter PDF) | 40β90 MB |
| Same book re-exported for A4 | 40β90 MB |
| Individual PNG pages, 100 pages zipped | 60β150 MB |
| Grayscale edition, 50 pages | 50β150 MB |
| Cover, printing guide, license page | 1β5 MB |
| Typical 100-page bundle, both page sizes plus PNGs | 150β350 MB |
| Etsy's ceiling per Etsy listing | 5 files Γ 20 MB |
Nothing about a single coloring page is big. One letter-size line-art page at 300 DPI is 300 KB to 1 MB as a PNG, and less than that if the art stays vector. The book is what's big, and it scales linearly β double the page count, double the file.
Grayscale pages break that rule upward. There's no flat white to compress away, so a shaded page runs 1 to 3 MB instead of well under one. A 50-page grayscale book is heavier than a 100-page line-art book.
Then most bundles ship twice: Letter for American buyers, A4 for everyone else. Add the individual pages folder and one listing is delivering 150 to 350 MB against Etsy's 100 MB total ceiling.

Check your files against Etsy's limitsWhat buyers of coloring pages and coloring books expect
The complete delivery in this niche looks like this:
The coloring book PDF (US Letter)
50-100 line-art pages in one document, sized 8.5 Γ 11 at print resolution. This is the file most buyers open first.
A4 edition
Everyone outside the US prints on A4. Same artwork, re-exported at a different trim β a second full-size document, not a smaller one.
Individual pages (PNG or JPG)
One file per page, so a buyer can print just the one dragon, or drop a page into Procreate and color it on an iPad.
Grayscale or shaded edition
Continuous tone instead of flat line art, for colored-pencil work. Several times heavier per page than the line version.
Printing guide and license
Print at 100%, not βfit to page.β Plus the commercial-use terms if you sell bundles to other creators.
Why Etsy's 20 MB Γ 5 cap bites here
The 20 MB cap isn't close. A 100-page book is three to five times over on its own, before you export a second page size. There is no compression setting that gets a print-quality 100-page book under 20 MB and leaves it worth printing.
Then the 5-file count finishes the job. Letter PDF, A4 PDF, individual pages, grayscale edition, license β that's five slots gone before anything gets split. Split the Letter PDF into four parts and the rest of the bundle has nowhere to go.
The page count is the pitch. It's in your title because it's what buyers compare between listings, and it's the one number Etsy's upload limits punish.

The workarounds sellers use β and what they cost
Every coloring pages and coloring books seller has tried at least one of these.
1. Compress the PDF until it fits
Downsample to 150 DPI or run the book through a PDF optimizer until it drops under 20 MB.
The problem: Line art is the worst possible thing to compress. Crisp black edges go soft and gray, hairline detail breaks up, and the printed page looks like a third-generation photocopy. Someone about to spend an hour on one page notices in the first minute.
2. Split the book into Part 1 / Part 2 / Part 3
Break the 100-page PDF into chunks that each fit under 20 MB.
The problem: You need five or six parts, which uses your whole file allowance and leaves nothing for the A4 edition. Buyers download two parts, miss the rest, and message you asking where pages 51-100 went.
3. Ship one page size and drop the individual pages
Upload only the US Letter PDF and cut the A4 edition and the PNG folder.
The problem: A4 buyers either clip the sides or scale down and get a shifted border, and they say so in reviews. The individual pages are often the reason someone picked your listing over the identical one next to it.
4. A one-page PDF containing a Dropbox or Drive link
Upload a placeholder to Etsy; the real bundle lives in your cloud storage.
The problem: Links rot, shared folders get reorganized, and a bundle that takes off on Pinterest hits sharing limits on the day it matters. Two years later you're still hand-delivering files to buyers who paid once.
Deliver coloring pages and coloring books the simple way
OrderFiles works alongside your Etsy shop. You keep your listings, your reviews, and your traffic β the files just stop being the problem.
Upload the whole bundle, every edition
Make one product in OrderFiles and put every edition in it β Letter PDF, A4 PDF, the zipped individual pages, the grayscale edition, the license. Files up to 5 GB each, so a 90 MB book doesn't register, and 50 GB of storage holds a back catalogue, not just this month's release.
Match the product to your Etsy listing
Use the listing title on the product, page count and all. That string is what an incoming order matches on.
Forward your Etsy order emails
Forward Etsy's order confirmations to OrderFiles once and the configuring is done. Each order gets verified and pointed at the right book.
Buyers get the whole book on one page
One branded download page carries every edition β no parts to reassemble, no links to chase. Nobody has to wait for you to be awake.
