How to Sell Canva Templates and Branding Kits Over 20MB on Etsy

The thing you are actually selling weighs almost nothing. A Canva template is a link β€” the buyer clicks 'Use template,' it lands in their account, and the file Etsy receives is a one-page PDF with a URL on it.

Everything around that link is heavy. A branding kit buyer expects logo lockups in SVG, EPS and transparent PNG across three or four colorways, the fonts with their licenses, a color palette sheet, a social media set pre-sized for every platform, and a PDF explaining how to use it all. Etsy's uploader takes 5 files at 20 MB each per Etsy listing. One of those slots is already spent on a PDF containing a hyperlink.

The file-size math

What you deliverRealistic size
One-page PDF carrying the Canva template link100 KB – 2 MB
Logo suite (6 lockups Γ— 4 colorways, SVG/EPS/PNG/JPG)150–400 MB
Font files + license PDFs (3-6 families)5–30 MB
Color palette sheet + brand guidelines PDF5–25 MB
Social media size set (100-200 sized exports)80–300 MB
Complete branding kit delivery300 MB – 1 GB
Etsy's ceiling per Etsy listing5 files Γ— 20 MB

Nothing in a branding kit is a big file. The weight comes from multiplication. Six lockups β€” primary, secondary, submark, wordmark, favicon, watermark β€” times four colorways, times four formats is 96 files before you export a single Instagram post. A transparent PNG at print size (3,000-5,000 px on the long edge) runs 1-5 MB, EPS adds a few more, and the SVGs are the only genuinely small thing in the folder.

Social sets multiply on a different axis: 20 layouts across 8 platform crops is another 160 exports. So it is the slot count that stops you here, not the megabytes β€” you run out of the five while every individual file is still comfortably under the limit.

What buyers of Canva templates and branding kits expect

The complete delivery in this niche looks like this:

Canva template link (one-page PDF)

The part buyers came for, and the only part that isn't a file. Sellers wrap the 'Use template' link in a PDF because a link is not something Etsy's uploader accepts.

Logo variations (SVG, EPS, PNG)

Primary, secondary, submark, wordmark, favicon, watermark β€” each as vector for the printer and transparent PNG at print size, in black, white, and the brand colors.

Font files with licenses

Canva's font list shifts and free accounts can't reach every Pro font. Shipping installable families with their license PDFs is how the brand still looks like itself in Word, on a sign, and in an email footer.

Color palette sheet

Hex, RGB and CMYK values on one page, plus swatch files. It's the page the buyer forwards to a printer or a web developer.

Social media size set

The same designs pre-exported to every crop: Instagram post and story, reel cover, Pinterest pin, Facebook cover, LinkedIn banner, YouTube thumbnail. Individually tiny, collectively the heaviest thing in the kit.

How-to guide (PDF)

Open the link, duplicate the design, swap the fonts, resize. It's the difference between a five-star review and a message that starts 'I can't edit it.'

Why Etsy's 20 MB Γ— 5 cap bites here

Count the slots. Link PDF, logos, fonts, palette sheet, how-to guide β€” that's all five, and the social media set hasn't been delivered yet. Zip the logos together to free a slot and you're instantly past 20 MB, because one lockup in print-size PNG plus EPS across four colorways can hit 10 MB by itself.

Then there's the shape of the product. Half of it is a link and half of it is a library, and Etsy's uploader only understands the library half. So the link goes in a PDF, the library goes somewhere else, and the buyer has to work out which of the two things they bought is which. That's the 'confusing to download' review on a kit that took weeks to design.

The workarounds sellers use β€” and what they cost

Every Canva templates and branding kits seller has tried at least one of these.

1. Put the asset pack behind a cloud link

The Etsy file becomes a one-page PDF holding two links: one to the Canva template, one to a shared Drive or Dropbox folder with everything else.

The problem: You now maintain two links forever. Folder permissions fail on work and school Google accounts, popular folders get throttled, and the buyer from last year messages you the week you reorganize your Drive. A branding kit that arrives as a shared folder also doesn't feel like the premium product your listing photos sold.

2. Link the fonts instead of shipping them

The PDF points buyers at each font's original download page rather than including the files.

The problem: Font pages move and license terms get revised. A buyer who has to prove commercial use to their own client is left with a dead URL. It's also one more obstacle between purchase and a brand that looks the way the mockups promised.

3. Flatten the logos and drop the vectors

Export web-size PNGs only, compress hard, and skip the SVG and EPS files so the folder fits under 20 MB.

The problem: The first time a buyer takes the logo to a sign shop, an embroiderer, or a printer, they're asked for vector β€” and they come back to you. Vector files are what separate a branding kit from a graphic.

4. Cut the social media size set

Ship the template link and the logos, and let buyers resize the designs themselves in Canva.

The problem: The grid of pre-sized posts is what's in your listing photos and what buyers compare between shops. Telling them to resize also assumes they're on Canva Pro β€” plenty of your buyers aren't.
