How to Sell Crochet Patterns Over 20MB on Etsy
A written crochet pattern is small — 1 to 3 MB. But nobody buys your pattern for the text alone. They buy it for the 60 step-by-step photos showing exactly where the hook goes, and increasingly for the video tutorial that walks them through the tricky rounds.

Step photos have to stay sharp. A crochet tutorial photo shows yarn-over direction and loop placement — compress it and the detail that makes it useful disappears. At print-friendly resolution, 60 photos add 12-35 MB to a PDF.
Video is a different universe entirely. One minute of 1080p video is 15-30 MB even at modest bitrates. There is no version of a video tutorial that fits Etsy's cap.

The workarounds sellers use — and what they cost

1. Unlisted YouTube links for videos
Put the video on YouTube unlisted and paste the link into the pattern PDF.
The problem: Buyers get ads, end-screen distractions, and a 'related videos' rabbit hole that includes your competitors. YouTube can flag or remove the video, and you can't stop anyone from sharing the link.
2. Compress the step photos
Shrink photos until the tutorial PDF fits under 20 MB.
The problem: Stitch anatomy photos lose exactly the detail buyers zoom in on. 'Photos are too blurry to follow' is a review you can't delete.
3. Ship one terminology edition only
Publish US terms and add a conversion table for UK buyers.
The problem: UK and Australian buyers work in the wrong terms with a lookup table on their lap. Many just buy from a seller who ships their edition.
4. Email the full package manually
